Role of the Nurse Leaders in Implementing Innovative Care Models

Nurse leaders and managers play an integral role in creating opportunities and environments for innovating and implementing advanced care models within the care delivery process. With continued advancement in medicine and healthcare delivery, innovative care models will continue to be invented and adopted into care delivery. Nurse leaders play an integral role in defining the success of innovative care models. The leaders provide a link between innovators and model implementation, providing feedback on different ways to make the models more effective (Weintraub & McKee, 2019). More so, leaders must offer a collaborative work environment that subsequently evaluates the models’ impact on the quality of care delivered. As a result of their position, leaders communicate expectations in terms of care model impact, hence giving room for improvement in their adoption and implementation (Institute of Medicine, 2016). Finally, implementing innovative models is regarded as an instrument for change, and the leader is, in turn, the chief change agent; hence he has to actively participate in the adoption of the care model as change implementers.

Innovative care models have been regarded as a transition towards better and quality care delivery. Installation of innovative care models entails input from all aspects of the healthcare system, hence multiple inputs from diverse lines or specialties. With the models built on shared vision, purpose, continuity care, and communication, the care models impact the collaboration between registered nurses and other players in the field. The innovative models recognize the roles of diverse stakeholders in the care delivery process, and in turn, bringing each stakeholder to contribute to the overall wellbeing, quality and effectiveness collaboratively of the system (Gordon et al., 2020). A practical, innovative model is defined by high value and ability to establish a connection with patients, hence being founded on shared decision-making and affecting the collaboration between registered nurses and other stakeholders in the health industry. Finally, innovative care models involve transforming healthcare, which calls for partnering with physicians, leaders, and nurses to influence the quality of care delivered positively.
